INTRODUCTION

This web-quest will be the starting point for your encounter with Holes by Louis Sachar. You will spend the next several weeks under the pounding sun of West Texas as an inmate at Camp Green Lake, a prison camp for juvenile offenders. However, Camp Green Lake is not a camp, is not green and hasn't had a lake for over 100 years. You'll meet a motley collection of characters with names like X-Ray, Zero and Barf Bag. You'll also come face to face with the adults who run Camp Green Lake: Mr. Sir, Mr. Pedansky (whom the inmates call Mom) and the scariest person of all, The Warden.

You'll also travel back a hundred years, where you'll visit foreign countries like Latvia, watch a forbidden love affair turn into murder, and meet up with one of the most famous bank robbers in the Old West.

Dangerous people, dangerous creatures and dangerous places...sound like fun? This web-quest will get you started.

Read the directions carefully in each section. You'll be asked to visit several web-sites, where you will study a wide variety of subjects. At several points along the way, you'll be asked some questions. Respond to the questions on the webquest map you were given, and confer with your team-mates. Then continue on. As you go further into the web-quest, you may ask yourself, "What do all of these web-sites have in common?" Be patient. The mysteries will soon be revealed.

READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY ON EACH PAGE!! Take good notes on your map; we'll be referring back to these at several points this week.

Good luck and click on the Page One--Wrongful Convictions button at the top of this page to continue.
