JIM CROW
Sometimes, it's hard to think that only about 50 years ago, one out of every five Americans was not allowed to vote. Or eat in any restaurant they wanted. Or marry anyone they wanted.

"Jim Crow" was the name given to laws passed in the 1870s after the Civil War that prevented black Americans from being considered full citizens. Basically, Jim Crow made racism not only legal, but required by law.

Why do you think was the motivation behind the people who created these Jim Crow laws? Why didn't the people who weren't racist put a stop to this? Why did it take more than 75 years to end Jim Crow?

Once you have finished, take a few moments and share your response with your teammates.
