Dirt Bike Riding
Forrest F.
It was a warm day on a Thursday in September and I had no homework that day. So being thirteen and venturesome, I love to ride my Honda CR-100 dirt bike that my Dad got me for me on my twelfth birthday.
There is this huge gravel pit just perfect for me to ride in across the road from my house. My Dad asked my Sister and I, Would you guys like to go riding this evening? As we both are always ready to go, we went to the gravel pit. I was riding around about 5:15 P.M. when I saw a 1990's blue truck in the weeds. I was wondering why the truck was back there at this hour. I became scared and worried. Was he chasing me? I hurried off to find my Dad to tell him and my Sister about finding a blue truck in the weeds. We only had one way to escape at this time for safety. Dad lead across the road into the Park. We stayed there for about five minutes and talked about finding a blue truck in the weeds. I was curious now and rode back across the street back into the gravel pit. I then sneaked back to the area where we had seen the truck to see if it was still there. I didn't see the truck again that night. I think it was someone that works at the pit and was late getting off work that night or someone that was going fishing.
Parallel to Alexandria Pike there is a flat open dirt field. I can watch cars drive down Alexandria Pike. I like to start at the Cross Street and Alexandria Pike intersection and wait for the cars to turn the corner from Cross Street onto Alexandria Pike and race the cars going down Alexandria Pike. Zooming down this straight stretch of open field, I think my dirt bike can go fifty miles an hour in sixth gear.
Its the weekend now and Dad and I have finished up a project. We're lying on the bed reading his train books. We talked about how Im doing in school and making plans around the house to help Mom. We talked about Megan wasn't ready to ride the dirt bike yet. She hasn't learned the skills of shifting gears and using the clutch lever. Then Dad asked, "Wonder if your Mother and Sister are still at the grocery store?" I said, "I think so. Why don't we go over to the gravel pit and cut thru the field behind Payless and look for them?" Dad said, "Okay. Lets go for it!" I hurried and got the motorcycles ready.
Riding up behind the Payless grocery store we spotted a snorkel fire truck and fireman talking in the Payless parking lot. We rode passed them and waved. Seeing my Mom and Sister loading the groceries into the car, Dad and I snuck up behind and surprized them. Talking a few minutes to them, Dad and I then turned around in the parking lot and headed back into the gravel pit. I hurried across the field to the intersection of Cross Street and Alexandria Pike and waited on Mom to turn the corner onto Alexandria Pike to race her. She had a head start and I had the throttle turned wide open trying to catch up with her. She sees me racing her and speeds up and she wins. She said, I was going 45 mph. I think she was doing 55 mph, so she could beat me in the race. We parked the motorcycles for the night.
Dad and I then helped my Mom and my Sister unload the groceries from the car and carried them into the house.
That night I fell asleep and had a nightmare. Was that blue truck going to get me?
