"My gosh," I thought. "They aren't really going to do it,are they?" Unfortunately, they had done it. They had unplugged my nephew from life support. It was a sad day in the Rose family, needless to say. "Mason was only 7 months old...why did God have to take him now?" that's a question that I still ask today.

It all started out as a normal day. My brother called from Ohio. "Nate?" He said. "Yeah." I said in response. "Nate, go get Mom, hurry." He said. I didn't think much of it, he wanted to talk to my mom every time he called. "OK." I said. "Mom, Telly's on the phone. He wants to talk to you, he said to hurry." My mom put the pen she was making out the bills with down and went to the phone. "Hello?" I heard her say. There was a pause. "He's not BREATHING?!" My mom said. It took me a while to figure it out, but when I finally figured it out I said "Mason's not breathing?!" I said. I broke out in tears right then and there.

Next thing I know, we're packing, if you could call it packing, we really just threw some stuff in a suitcase, to quick to realize what we were throwing in. We were heading to the Pittsburgh hospital, which is a good way away from here, about 8 hours really.

The next three weeks where full of a mixture of misery and hopefulness. When we finally realized Mason wouldn't make it, we unplugged him. The room was full of tears, everyone was crying, and my mom was in the corner saying a prayer to make his death quick and easy on him. My father was standing next to me telling me that I didn't have to watch this if I didn't want to. Mason' mom was holding him while his dad was rubbing his head. His aunt on his mom's side was burrying her face in the blue stuffed bunny she bought him for Christmas, which was next month. It was about a minute before Mason died. That was the last minute of his life, and also the last minute of my better half's life.
